Aside from being a portrait artist, Dr. Ito Briones is also a physician-scientist with a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Georgetown University, Washington, DC. He worked at the National Institutes of Health-National Cancer Institute (NIH-NCI) focusing on the epigenetics of cancer and stem cells. He is also a fiction writer with a Master of Arts in Creative Writing from Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts. In January 2015, he had a solo exhibit at the Arts Club entitled “Portraits of New Americans” consisting of 18 portraits of immigrants to the US.

He was selected by the Arts League Gallery (Torpedo Factory in Alexandria) as well as the Arts Club of Washington to have a solo exhibit featuring his portraits. His current exhibit (August 8 to September 1, 2018 is titled: "A Murder in Bruges: Cast of Characters". He has won awards for his paintings in several competitions.  Also, he enjoys composing music and playing the violin.
